It was a perfect day for a dual sport ride or any ride for that matter, who needs an excuse to go riding. The weather wasn't to hot nor was it to cold. Dave Horner and Len Orrico laid out the route,Don Hatton provided his shop for the start and finish. Don and his wife own Duncan Motorcycles, along with the coffee shop Kick Start located next door ,serving up great coffee and tasty treats. The shop carries everything you could imagine for motorcycling, including new road bikes, dual sport, dirt bikes and quads. Canada Day Dual sport ride, started with 25 riders signed up,first rider out at 10:30,lunch break was at Lake Cowichan whistle stop pub, most riders made arrived around noon. After lunch riders headed back through Lake Cowichan towards Duncan again but not before hitting some dusky trial sections. After the dust cleared riders finished there day, where it all started, back at Duncan Motorcycles. They enjoyed some much deserved refreshments. Len and Janice supplied tasty home baked cookies and water melon. Everyone arrived back safely with big dusty grins on their faces and many stories to be told. Only six DNF's for the day, nothing serious.

The PNTA went off without a hitch again this year due to the diligent work of the organizing committtee. Thanks to everyone who worked so hard to put this event on and thanks to all participants for braving the threatening weather.
An event report from Dave Fair:
Fifty two riders braved the cold wind and rode the first day. The sections were challenging, and the riders put on a good show for the spectators. Section #4 in the afternoon proved to be a little too much for some riders as Jeff Wark found out. Jeff gets the prize for the most spectacular crash of the weekend with Will Duggan coming in a close second. Both bikes took a beating and the riders came away with minor scratches.
Round 6, held on Sunday, was a wet affair. The day started out cloudy and turned to a fine misty drizzle shortly after the riders went out. Forty five riders braved the weather. Thank you to the riders who traveled from Vancouver, Alberta, Oregon and Washington State.
Many thanks to all the helpers without whom this event would not have happened. We would like to recognize the following people:

Spurred in part by a persistent and well-spoken lobby, the Capital Regional District parks committee has indicated it will re-examine the idea of allowing motorized recreational vehicles in some areas under, or about to be under it’s control.
Thanks to President Ben Hircock for the trail layout and link.
The Les Blow Trial
The Les Blow Trial was held on Sunday, Feb.28th under sunny skies at the VMC property, 4192 Happy Valley Road. Due entirely to Team Canada doing an awesome job to get to the Gold Medal game only twenty six 26 riders were present, some of our regulars were glued to the TV!
Many Thanks to the committee:
Devon & Ian D’Argis set up the sportsman/expert sections with help from Don Venn & Dean Parry.
Pete Wilson & Sean Duhamel did a great job in setting up the Jr/Intermediate loop with help from James Austin.
Mike Cameron & Susan Fair handled the sign up & score keeping, soon to be new members Todd Walker & Glen Crayton ran the BBQ.
As soon as the event was over Dillon Walker & Brian Mitchell did a nice job removing all traces of the 5 sections that were in the lower parking lot area.
Thanks to everyone!
* Thomas Cordner not only rode very well all day, he even managed to ride up through the woods to his friend’s house, watch the OT part of the hockey game and ride back down the hill in time to collect his award! *

The BCORMA trail pass has been adopted by the VMC
From President Ben Hircock:
The membership unanimously voted on a motion to make a BCORMA trail pass a requirement to ride ALL VMC off-road events including dual sport and hill climb. The cost is 30 dollars per year and the pass works across the province. Extra passes will be available for those people who use more than one helmet and passes for those under 18 years are free. Passes will be available for purchase at all VMC off-road events and at meetings. Quite a number of passes were sold at the meeting already and I encourage members and non-members to participate in this program, as the benefits will come back to the riding public, club members or not. Also with the introduction of the Trail pass our trail maintenance fee has been dropped and the account set up for it will now be the Trail Pass account. As a note to future committees, we will need to include on posters for events, the requirement for a pass and that they will be on hand at events. As with any new initiative there will be hiccups, a lot of discussion has gone into the details of this program across the province by the 19 or so member clubs, so most of the obvious stuff has been addressed.
Please see the forum topic BCORMA trail pass if you wish to comment on or discuss the BCORMA trail pass.
The VMC needs your help
The VMC is a volunteer organization. As such, all events are done for the members and public, by the members. Volunteering to help on one of the events is the best way to get to know people and to help make a good name for yourself, along with making the event a success. Check the forums for the events discussion to see what you can help out with or just send an email to the VMC with a general offer to help. Also, you can usually find a contact email or phone number within the events calendar (from the main menu) if you want to help with a specific event.
Aside from being one of the entrance requirements, volunteering some time is educational, often good fitness, and a fun way to become more a part of this club that we all enjoy.

What kind of events do you run?
The VMC runs Trials, Enduros, Dualsport, and Street events.
Please see the Events Calendar on the main menu for actual event schedules and information.
Trials
Trials and some enduro events are held at the VMC club property on Happy Valley road. In Trials the object is to navigate through a predefined course while not touching your foot to the ground, falling over, or stalling. You can get an idea of the size of obstacles covered by some of the expert level riders at the video gallery by clicking here or by clicking the image below to see a modern trials image gallery. Trials events have a wide range of obstacle courses suited to those at a beginner level, right up to those at a world class level.
Enduro
Most enduro events will be held at the new Tansky Main riding area near Jordan River, or riding areas near Cowichan Lake.
The Tansky Main riding area is crown land where the VMC has a trail cutting permit allowing us to improve the riding areas by creating and maintaining trails. Events hosted at this area will describe precise directions to the site. Some enduros and the very challenging Terra Nova are held in Lake Cowichan.
Dualsport
Dualsport rides are a combination of on and off-road riding. Each event will vary significantly so once again, please contact the event organizer from the events calendar to determine riding levels and equipment required.
Street
Street events will be held in various locations and with various levels of experience required.
Please pay careful attention to the event announcement in the events calendar and if in doubt, contact the event organizer listed to determine exact suitability for your bike, equipment, and experience.
Hillclimb
The hillclimb event is held once per yeart the VMC property, being a contest of speed to ascend a steep grade and having multiple classes. The Victoria day parade is a yearly event through downtown Victoria, typically having a group of trials riders from the VMC demonstrating the unique capabilities of trials motorcycles and riders.
Special Events
The annual Victoria Day parade is one of the special events where VMC riders get to showcase their talents.
Field Meet
The Field meet is a contest of riding ability and is typically held once per year at the club property.
Please see the events calendar for more detailed descriptions of the events.
At the VMC, our goal is to ensure that all participants have a safe and enjoyable ride. Often, events have multiple levels of competition and many are just fun events with no time limits or significant levels of difficulty. We encourage you to get active and get involved!
Warning!!! Those participating will often find that after their first experience, they are foregoing other activities (like mowing the lawn) and riding instead. Please join us at your own risk ;-)
